My Health

6/30/2009 6:32:06 AM

OH NO NOT AGAIN!

Here’s another image of my injury. This time it’s on my face. I’m thinking rather than an insect bite, I’ve got a staff infection. I know, I know, it’s not called staff, rather steph (or something like that) My spell checker is going bananas.

I looked up on webmd to educate myself on what I’ve got, and it’s not pretty.

I have an appointment to see the Dr. this AM.

Here’s a photo attached to this blog.

Dear God

6/28/2009 6:38:13 AM

DEAR GOD:

Thank you for sending Jesus on the cross for me.

Today I plan to walk to my other church, faith community. They meet at the Y.

I collect CD’s from the service.

Dear God ..

I pray for our country daily. I pray that our current BO administration will come to the realization that they’re heading in the wrong direction.

I am looking for some other political party to join. The Republicans have disappointed me. Perhaps the Constitution Party is more to my liking. I need to do some more homework on that.

Is there a common sense party out there I can join?

How about starting a tea party?

I’ve been doing some domain searches on the web and there’s all kinds of opportunities out there.

I’m very content with our domain name though. Why buy any more?

I’m getting old my Lord.

Yesterday I proceed to turn on the stove burner and turned on the wrong one. The kitchen was engulfed in smoke as a pan with grease in it reacted to the heat.

My prayer Lord is to help me with my bucket list.

http://www.myownfaith2.com/bucket is the web address

Love you Jesus

JACKO & ELIVIS

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting overdosed on Michael Jackson’s death.

I’d like to know more about my dream girl, Farrah Faucett. She died a day or two earlier. Somewhere I used to have her famous poster. Sally would NOT let me put her poster in our bedroom… OH WELL.

I’ll make my weakly-weekly video blog too and mention this death.

It is well with my soul

6/26/2009 7:14:02 AM

DEAR GOD:

It is well with my soul.

I am currently listening to Lori Line playing on the piano that song.

My mind goes back years ago to my father, Adolph G. Holter. This was my DAD’s favorite song, among many others.

We were at Mount Carmel one year at a chapel service and they played this song. I remember my father looking back at me and smiling. He knew and I knew that it is well my soul.

Can I have this song played at my funeral?

That’s about it for my daily blog.

COMPLETE STREETS:

Yesterday Sally & I attended a complete street meeting at Landon Middle School. It was interesting. The gentleman presenting the power point shared with us the benefits of having bike trails and walking areas next to the roads. He made a lot of sense.

Jim Ogle of WIBW TV was the moderator. The YMCA is in support of this program. Sally works at the SW YMCA. A lot of the employees were in attendance.

DR. GOERI NG, (eye Doctor)

My Optometrist also looked over my eyes. He found a brain behind those eyeballs. J

All things work for good to those who love the Lord.

Read my previous blog about my attack from an angry killer bee in our backyard.

Insect Bite & 3-legged stool

6/24/2009 5:22:23 AM

INSECT BITES & 3-LEGGED STOOL:

Yesterday was a very eventful day in my uneventful life.

I was working in my back yard and suddenly an irate insect decided it did not want me around! I swatted at it and failed to kill it. Please don’t tell PETA. In the process of my self-defense, I knocked off my glasses and the lens popped out

Sally calls in the meantime and I tell her what happened to me. She tells me to put some baking soda mix on my sting. I do so.

I then run over to Dr. Goering to have my lens replaced. While there, I decide to have my eyes examined. It’s been over two years.

I stop by to see our senior retirement adviser, Roger Shumaker to merely say hello. Roger asks me about the ELP program on Financial Peace University. I did not know the person he asked about.

Later on last night I was a public speaker at our city. I am NOT a public speaker. I wanted to share with the city my 3-legged stool success formula. We conferees only get 4 minutes. But I had to get it off my chest.

I offered the council a reliv can in Christmas decoration. They just don’t understand what this business can do for them.

OH WELL

More Father's Day Memories

6/20/2009 8:01:42 AM

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY:

Tomorrow is Father’s Day. I’ll probably do what I do every day.. And that’s to do whatever I FREELY decide to do.

While the video is uploading, I’ll write a little bit about my father, Adolph G. Holter. DAD was born in Bruce SD Jan 07,1907. He died May ??, 1977 , I think.

I wrote a little bit about DAD in a previous blog.

6/20/2009 8:25:37 AM

Just finished watching my favorite TV program, Red/Green on PBS. The video about my DAD is finished also.

The Internet is a powerful tool of communication. Unfortunately, there are a lot of BAD people out there. Our website is a GOOD website.

John, please give a hug to our only grandchild from me. Print out my bucket list and reply accordingly.

Happy Father’s DAY all you Dad’s out there.

FATHER’S DAY THOUGHTS:

Today is the real Father’s Day. I’ve written about my father, Adolph, in my previous writings.

Today, I’d like to write a little about my father-in-law, Theodore “Ted” Corry, Sally’s DAD. Sally could write more about her father, as I just came on the scene when we were first married.

I remember Ted the most from the days we used to visit them back in the 1970’s. Ted and Gerry would always make us feel welcome. We used to play golf together. Ted and Gerry lived in Davenport IA, 503 W 31st to be exact. Ted loved to garden. He would have a small plot in their back yard. Ted could raise vegetables with loving care.

My father-in-law was also a war hero. At the Davenport IA museum is a photo of him returning from the war embracing Gerry. Pat (Sally’s sister) is in the background. We have that book somewhere.

Ted & Gerry gave birth to three children:

Pat (Corry) Garner
Robert Cork Corry
Sally (Holter) Corry

Cork is my only brother-in-law on Sally’s side of the family.
Pat passed away a couple of years ago.

I married my one and only wife of many years, Sally on 10/04/1969

There are many photos of the Corry family in our wedding book.

I remember Ted mostly by the way he cared for his wife. Ted loved ALL his family and wanted us all to be happy.

Ted died in the 1990’s .. I don’t recall the year.
Gerry passed away in 1978, I believe.

Somewhere I’ve need to research out Ted and Gerry’s obit.

RIP Ted.. you were a WONDERFUL DAD

See you in heaven.

Your loving son

My.. That’s the nickname Ted gave me.. “MY”

MORE FATHER’S DAY MEMORIES:

Today we celebrated our father’s at church. We had outdoor services today at Crestview Park near our home.

I honored my father by posting his name on a Christmas Tree. The rest of us did the same.

There are so many memories of my DAD.

I was raised on a farm NE of Bruce SD. I am the youngest son, with an older sister and a younger sister.

My family goes like this:

Adolph G. Holter (my father)
Cecelia M. (Bergh) Holter (my mother)

Wesley K. Holter oldest brother
Ronald G. Holter next oldest
Dale N. Holter next oldest
Adelpha C. (Holter) Reppe older sister
Myron D. Holter (the thorn between two roses) .. ME

And finally, the baby of the fam ..

Julie M. (Holter) Anderson

My parents were married in Aug 1936

We honored my parents 40th wedding anniversary the summer of 1976. My DAD passed away the following May 1977 .. I think.

So that is my immediate family. Mom is still alive at the young age of 95. Listen to a previous video blog as I taped her about a month ago.

I was privileged to be raised up in a Christ centered home. To that I place my parents in the highest esteem. They are my heroes. All my family are my heroes.

While growing up, I would like to wonder off by myself. I still do.

My family would look for me. When I was four or five, I wondered off, took all my clothes off, and went looking for turtle eggs up the Sioux river. DAD was at a farm auction in Brookings SD, I’ve been told. The whole Bruce SD community heard about it and went looking for me. Otto Rust, was seining for my body downstream. I went upstream.

These are just some of my memories of my childhood.

My father had various moods. In public DAD would always seem like a happy go lucky guy. But when he was home alone, DAD was quiet. I never got a hug from my DAD. My brothers never got a hug either. Back in those days, fathers just didn’t do that; show any emotion to ones SONS. Our Norwegian culture was one of restraint in public. But we all felt loved and it didn’t matter.

I remember when I was 14 years old, Gerald Skovlund, my 1st cousin, told me to go home immediately, as my DAD had a heart attack. We were in the middle of playing a softball game at Bruce SD. I drove home to the farm and I thought DAD was going to die. DAD spent some time in the hospital and he came back in good strength. DAD lived some 20 years after his heart attack back then.

I believe I wrote earlier about how my father died. Let me just add some thoughts about those days.

DAD died doing what he liked to do. DAD was a farmer, and he wanted to paint every building on our farm home. He started with the RED barn. My sister, Delpha, begged him to hire a helper. DAD had a history of heart disease among other health issues. DAD also had an inner ear vertigo problem. But DAD was DAD.

My nephew found DAD at the foot of the ladder. The red paintbrush followed his path down the ladder.

When Sally & I first arrived to pay our final respects to DAD, I grabbed a paintbrush and painted over the trail to his death. I could NOT bear to see it.

DAD had one of the largest funerals in Bruce SD history. DAD had lots of relatives and friends. He lived all his life on the farm I grew up in. …

6/22/2009 7:10:02 AM

It’s Monday after Father’s Day and I’ll finish writing about my father.

All in all I had a wonderful DAD. My father led me to Jesus. What more can I say.

Guess I’ll post this to my web.

Adolph Holter (My Father)

6/19/2009 5:15:26 PM

FATHER’S DAY MEMORIES:

My father was Adolph Gustav Holter. He was a wonderful DAD. Dad was also my hero. My father passed away at the young age of 70. He was going to paint the barn. My 5 year old nephew came upon him at the foot of the ladder. He approached my mother and MOM went to him in a lifeless condition.

My brother Wesley called me at work. I immediately had to sit in the break room for a few minutes to collect my thoughts. I called Sally and we were on our way to Bruce SD later the next day.

MOM was doing well. DAD is buried at St. Petri Cemetery NE of Bruce SD. I want to buy a tombstone and have it placed right next to my parents. Please visit our web and click on my bucket list for more details.

That’s about it.

FATHER'S DAY

6/19/2009 5:30:04 AM

FATHER’S DAY:

OH NO! ANOTHER FATHER’S DAY!

When I think of Father’s day this Sunday, I think of my father Adolph Holter, (01/17/1907-1977) .. I think.

Dad died while painting the barn on our farm NE of Bruce SD.

Somewhere on the web is probably my father’s obituary.

Scroll to 2009. I am the father of John & Mark. Mark I’m sure will honor me. John will choose to ignore me again.

OH WELL

There is a lot to do. Yesterday Sally & I attended choir practice at Grace Episcopal Church here in Topeka KS.

6/19/2009 6:02:59 AM

My laptop froze up and I had to reboot. But no biggie, I have the knowledge and the tools to recover.

Where was I?

Yesterday Sally & I practiced choir practice for the upcoming 4th of July honoring those who gave their lives for our FREEDOMS.

I am getting more and more of our freedoms after watching the news.

Iran is in turmoil. Businesses are losing their freedoms to our government. Big government is taking over our lives. I do NOT approve.

SO MUCH TO DO

6/18/2009 6:54:01 AM

IT’S ANOTHER DAY:

Sometimes you just want to stay in bed.

Yesterday I had a visit with our Doctor, Dr. Chester Davis. We have had our Dr. for over 35 + years. He wants to see me in 2 months. He wanted to look at my spider bite. It’s healing well. The good Dr. also put me on Plavix. My Cardiologist wanted me to do a cranial carotid artery scan . I awaken daily with headachy and dizziness. Perhaps Plavix will help?

Our home is being taken over by ants. I poured some beer over their trails. At least I want them to die happy. J Our fridge runs constantly too. It keeps freezing up. What to do? It would be nice if my weekly lunch with my sons included our #1 son estranged from me. .. OH WELL. I have reached out to John, but he refuses to reach back.

Kim called me the other day to chew me out again. John and Kim do not want to be jejune. ( A Bill O-Reilly word) I drove to their home to deliver Bert’s obit.

We’re going to practice for the July 4th singing at the Episcopal Church tonight. Should be a lot of fun.

I guess I’ll need to make another version of my hand written bucket list.

The other day I attended an American for Prosperity meeting at the Topeka Public Library. There were about 15 in attendance. Kim Borchers was the moderator. We listened to Milton Friedman, an economist from the 1980’s under Reagen. If only our current administration would listen.

I have posted a number of good websites to our public blogs.

TODO LIST

6/16/2009 5:41:02 AM

TODO LIST:

There is so much to do. Sometimes I wish I had a 40 hour week job again just to not feel guilty about so much free time. .. NAAAHHH J

I need to do a lot of things. Being retired gives me the opportunity to get stuff done. I love being retired.

But the bills do not go away.

The month of June is a wash budget wise. We spent a lot of $$$ with food, lodging, etc. Sally wrote an email to the folks and I was able to post it to our blog. She’s a better writer than me. I just write.

Yesterday was Bert’s memorial service. The service was very nice. I was able to get Elly Brigg’s VCR ready for her upcoming visiting grandchildren also.

Later Fred wanted to show me his children’s train he just built. I told him of my plans to build a casket for me. We laughed about that. He’s going to try to find me some specks from some magazine somewhere.

Guess I get some more coffee.

Our BO president wants to destroy our country.

Our little group called www.caiitopeka.org is still around. We’re just NOT meeting this summer.

Back to Work

6/15/2009 6:48:09 AM

BACK TO WORK.

WAIT !! I don’t have a job!

Our friend from church, Bert Stratmann died, the funeral is today at our church. Bert was a lifetime member of OSLC and also loved to play golf. We were at their home many times for the nineteenth hole social times. The visitation is at 11:00 AM today.

The Stratmann’s used to live right around the corner from us also. Their daughter used to baby sit our children. Their son honorably serves in the 190th USAFNG at Forbes.

There is so much to do being retired and all.

Hope you all enjoyed my interview with my mother too.

Guess I’d better get at it.

But first I need to make some more coffee.

Sally's email

Hi all,

Thanks much to Cork & Bette, Wes and Janet, Julie and John and Scott and Barb for letting us stay a night with you while we were on vacation. We had a great time.

We left on Thursday, June 4th, and spent the night in Omaha with Cork and Bette. We had a good visit and enjoyed our overnight stay with them and the boys. Hi Michael and Jackson. Hope you are doing fine.

From Omaha on Friday, June 5th, we headed up to SD and stayed in Julie and John's house for a couple nights. Myron picked up his mom on Sunday morning and he brought her to church. We had a good visit and enjoyed staying in SD for a couple nights.

Sunday afternoon, June 7th, we headed out for Wes and Janet's and got there about 5:00 p.m. or so. It was very cold up there, about 46 degrees. Ooh boy. We needed a jacket. We had a nice visit and I had to take a couple of photos of the lake, of course. Janet has a neat hummingbird feeder off her deck and there were some that flew by. I tried to get a photo but they are fast little buggers and I couldn't get a good shot.

Myron did his exercises with Wes and they did very good. Hope you are feeling better now, Wes, and getting along a little better each day. Glad you can drive now and ride the lawn mower. Be careful on that lawn mower.

Monday, we left for St. Paul, Minnesota and White Bear Lake where my nephew, Scott lives. We spent the night with them and Scott took us around the area and showed us the community they live in. We had fun visiting and went out to dinner to a fun place.

Scott talked us into going up by Green Bay to see Lake Michigan and the peninsula rather than going to the Wisconsin Dells. He told us that the Wisconsin Dells was more for families that have kids as there are a lot of water parks in the area and that it would be more fun for us and a prettier view if we went up by the Lake. We went out to dinner with Barb and Scott and spent the night at their house. Had a great visit.

We went to Green Bay and toured Lambeau Field where the Packer's play. We had a great guide who has done this for 10 years. He gave Myron a hard time because Myron had on a t-shirt that had purple on it which immediately he picked up that Myron may have been a Vikings fan. So we had a lot of fun joking with the guide.

I got some great photos of the field and the whole atrium. I then went into the Pro shop and did a little shopping. Whoo, everything was high dollar but they did have a little clearance area and I bought a hat for Mark. After the tour, we headed up north to the Peninsula.

We also went up to the Peninsula to Fish Creek and went to a Fish Boil. I'm not a fish eater but my oh my that fish was really good. We stopped at the dock where the boats were and I filmed a boat coming in which was the Coast Guard boat. Interesting. We then went back to our Motel 6 motel in Green Bay and spent the night.

From there we ended up in Oshkosh the next day and went to the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). We saw an actual replica of the Wright Brother's airplane, old airplanes that people have donated and the Space capsules, etc. It was supposed to take 1 1/2 hours. It took us 3 hours or more.

After that, we went across the road to the Outlet Mall so I could do some shopping. Myron relaxed in the car and read his book while I did some shopping. I saw a store called American Girl. They had some clothes for girls and also some doll clothes for the American Girl doll. I thought I would get something for Madeline there. I opened the door and every mother and their daughters were in there purchasing stuff as they were having a 50-75% off sale on the clothes. I left. Not patient enough to stand in line that long. They won't sell the dolls there so I said forget it.

We drove awhile and spent the night in the Country Inn at Port Washington, WI. It was our pricy hotel for the vacation. The next day we went into Port Washington and walked the Pier for one last look at Lake Michigan. My goodness, it is a big lake for sure. We chatted with the guide of a fishing boat who takes guys out to fish on the lake for a price, of course.

We spent one day in Chippawa Falls and took a tour of the YMCA there and did some other fun things there. Nice little town. I enjoyed it a lot. Had to stop at the local homemaid Ice cream shop. It was delicious, of course.

Then, the next day, after Port Washington, it was time to head for home. We went home via Illinois and I-80 (the busiest interstate of all time). We had a nostalgic night in Prophetstown, Illinois. This is the small town that my mom was born and raised and my grandma lived.

I hadn't been there probably for 50 some years. It was hard trying to decide which apt. bldg. my grandma lived in and where her office may have been. She was an Osteopathic doctor. I think Myron really enjoyed this stop. We stayed at the little motel there and drove home, 500 miles, the next day.

So much for our trip. Sorry if I bored you all.

Thanks to all who hosted us. We had a great time visiting with all the sibs and my nephew.

Hugs,

Sally

Vacation

VACATION:

Sally and I are getting ready for vacation.

I will write in my journal through this address.

6/3/2009 7:43:59 AM

Vacation planning can be stressful. Here I am writing, wondering about all the things that need to be done BEFORE we leave our home.

But I like our vacation plans. We’re heading for Omaha NE to see Sally’s brother tomorrow. Then it’s off to Bruce SD to see my mother.

Then it’s where ever Sally’s VAN takes us.

So I guess I’ll close down this laptop and only write to this file.

Until till then .. it’s just myron@myownfaith2.com signing off ..
