  1. Hey Myron, great memory of the "Viking Club"!

In the process of writing a book (Title: Dad and Saint Francis: Inconsequential Remembrances) with my daughter (who is taken a writing course this semester [and loving it]).

    Here's how the book starts:

Dad and Saint Francis: Inconsequential Remembrances

By M. M. Chamberlain with insights from P. B. Lawrence

If the past has been an obstacle and a burden, knowledge of the past is the safest and the surest emancipation.

    Lord Acton

    “. . . Und Strum brich los!”

On a Thursday in February, 1943, the events of which may have been harbingers for his life -

In Munich, Germany, the Nazis will arrest members of the “White Rose” resistance group

While, at the intersection of Potsdam Strasse and Pallassstrasse in Schoenberg, Berlin, Germany - the Sportspalast - Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels will give his “Total War” speech (shortly after the Battle of Stalingrad ends with the surrender of Field Marshall Paulas and the German 6th Army to the Soviets)

In Washington, D. C, China's first lady, Madame Chiang Kai-shek, will deliver a speech before the joint House and Senate of the United States appealing them to provide aid for the Chinese Nationalists in their struggle against Japan and the Chinese Communists.

While, in Seattle, WA, twenty minutes after takeoff from Boeing Field, the second of Boeing's top secret XB-29 prototype Superfortress bombers will catch fire and crash into the Frye Packing Plant. (Lead Boeing pilot Eddie Allen and ten crew members along with nineteen workers in the meat-packing plant perish)

    - my Dad is born. It is another time of war.
